Itinerary

Day 1: From Cusco to Tambomachay Valley – Huchuy Qosqo

First of all we will pick you up from your hotel at around 6:30 am. This trip combines the stunning, peaceful landscapes and Inca archeology that is evident from the start.

First we are going to go into the Sacred Valley, passing very traditional villages and meeting local people. You will begin to understand why it was the ‘sacred’ valley for the Incas.

After Lunch we continue to visit the little-visited Inca site of Huchuy Q’osco trek. The site is spectacular not only for its Inca architecture but also for its position, overlooking the beautiful valley.

You will have plenty of time to enjoy the peacefulness of the location because we will have our camp here.

Day 2: Huchuy Qosqo  Trek– Aguas Calientes

After breakfast, we can continue with our trek further into the Sacred Valley, taking in the majestic landscapes, calm atmosphere and authentic villages.

Probably you can have the opportunity to see weavers at work and take a visit to a local pub (chicheria), where Chicha, made of fermented corn, is the traditional drink. We will also see how the locals raise their guinea pigs.

In the late afternoon, we are going to take the train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes and rest at the hotel.

Day 3: Machupicchu Tour and train back to Cusco.

After your breakfast in your hotel  you and the tour guide will catch the first bus to Machu Picchu, in order to appreciate the magnificent sunrise over the city.

There you will take a 2 hour walking tour, given by your guide, and after this you can explore the mysterious city by yourself. Afterwards, you will meet your guide in Aguas Calientes for lunch and to receive your train tickets back to Cusco.

Language:

Spanish is the most widely-spoken language in Peru. Whether you’ve never spoken, Spanish before, or need to brush up your skills, it is best to know some phrases as you’ll find fewer English speakers outside of the tourist areas. Some things to know, or have handy:

  • Basic phrases
  • Airport travel
  • Taxi travel
  • Restaurants
  • Shopping

Travel Visa:

Citizens of the United States of America, Canada, and Mexico do not require a visa for visiting Peru (only a passport is required). Please check if you have a different citizenship as there may be additional visa requirements here: http://www.rree.gob.pe/servicioalciudadano/Documents/VisasXExtranEnero2012.pdf

Money:

Peru’s national currency is the Peruvian Sole. There are plenty of ATM in Peru, from which you can withdrawal Peruvian soles or US dollars, there are also ATM in many supermarkets. You can also change your US dollars at the “casa de cambio” (money exchanges houses), which always give better rates than a local bank. Most stores will accept Peruvian Sole, or Visa credit card. Some smaller stores may accept Peruvian Sole only. Be aware, any bills with a rip or tear in them are not accepted due to problems with counterfeiting.

Weather:

Peru has three main climatic zones: The tropical Amazon Jungle to the east, The Arid Costal Desert to the west; and the Andean Mountains and Highlands in the middle of the country. Peru’s climate varies depending on where you visit. On the coast it is usually quite hot although during the winter (April-August) it can get chilly early in the morning and at night. In the Andes there are two main seasons – wet and dry. The wet season runs from November to April and is wet but usually warmer overall. The dry season runs from May to October and has hot clear days but cold nights. The only one thing you can say about the weather in Peru is that it is difficult to accurately predict. You can beautifully clear hot days in the middle of the wet season and hail storms in the dry season – it’s one of the beauties of Peru.

Clothes:

In each city (Lima, Arequipa, Puno, Cusco, Aguas Calientes), there are places where you can do the laundry or if you want you can do it at the Hotel.

Vaccinations:

Yellow fever vaccination is recommended for all travelers older than 9-months of age going to areas above 2,300 meters in elevation, in the following: the entire regions of Amazonas, Loreto, Madre de Dios, San Martin, and Ucayali.
