Since the beginning of this year, we had the new restrictions for Visiting Machu Picchu, the government is applying the new PLAN MAESTRO for the protection of Machu Picchu and this is the main reason why a lot of changes are happening in our historic site. These new regulations are basically to protect Machu Picchu but at the same time are regulations to make better the experience of the visitors over the hands of the certificate travel agencies such as Kaypi Peru Tours.
The changes were happening gradually and all of them are related to the capacity of Machu Picchu to have a certain number of people at the same time in the same spot.
In the past all the people were able to stay in Machu Picchu for the time that they wanted, some of them stayed there for more than 11 hours creating problems especially for the rangers who have a lot of people at the same time, but was not just the number of people, those who stay for more than 11 hours there for sure needed something to eat and they left trash.
With the new restrictions for Visiting Machu Picchu, the government offers now, nine schedules or hours to enter Machu Picchu, this is really helping to have fewer people at the same time in the bus line and in the gate of Machu Picchu making the experience better for everybody.
The first hour is at 06:00 am and from this, every hour until 14:00 pm, this means that for example if you have the tickets for 08:00 am you can’t have access to the citadel until that time even if you are already there in the gate you will need to wait to your time.
All the hours have a different number of tickets available, just the 3 first ones, the 06:00 am, 07:00 am and 08:00 am have 800 tickets available, the rest of the hours have less number of tickets available.
Yes, all the times have the same price, the only difference between them is the actual time that you can spend in Machu Picchu. However, people from Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, and Bolivia have especial prices, for the rest of the nationalities, the rate is still the same 152.00 Peruvian soles.
The other big change is that some of the most important places to visit in Machu Picchu City such as Intiwatana (the great pyramid), the Temple of the Sun, and the Temple of the Condor are not open all day. The visitors can visit those places just until 10:00 am, but as those places are not located close to each other, visit the three of them in one day is not possible, here is when the certificate tour guides as the ones who work for Kaypi Peru Tours became important, they need to take the decision to which place take the visitors.
They need to take care of the times and visit which of those places lets you stay more time in Machu Picchu and see more things.
They are helping a lot, especially with the experience of the visitors because they don’t need to wait long lines like in the past years.
They are really helping with the bus lines, in the past, some people have to wait at least 1 hour to take the bus but no anymore, if you are on time you need to wait at least 10 or 15 minutes, it is the same case in the gate of Machu Picchu.
In order to help everybody the citadel of Machu Picchu still has the 3 circuits but now with less people in each of them, if the tour guides decided to take for example the A, you can not visit the same places that the B visits, this another way to limit the number of people at the same time in one spot
The Bus for going down is still the same history but the government is trying to reach better ways to control this and make the experience better.
